Ultrasound Fat Reduction

Ultrasound Fat Reduction

Ultrasound fat reduction treatments use probes to massage the skin, which causes unwanted fat cells to rupture and eventually shed from the body. Ultrasound technology delivers two forms of energy to the cells—heat and pressure—to cause the cells to implode when they reach a certain size. The membranes of fat cells eventually break since they do not have the capacity to withstand the pressure from ultrasound vibrations. The cells are eventually metabolized and disposed of by the body. During treatment, the ultrasound device is massaged in circles over the region of unwanted fat. Patients feel slight vibrations or minor heat during treatment which disappears after the ultrasound machine is removed from the skin.

The device works much like the ultrasound devices used by obstetricians during pregnancy checkups. A thick layer of jelly is applied to the skin, and the device is massaged in circles over the targeted area. Treatments generally take 30 minutes, and five to ten sessions are required to achieve complete fat reduction. However, treatments can be scheduled as few as four days apart due to the minimal recovery time and quick results of ultrasound fat reduction technology.

Like other non-surgical fat reduction treatments, ultrasound technology works best on stubborn areas of fat that do not disappear with diet and exercise alone. The treatments are safe and have minimal side effects such as redness or thirst after treatments, which subside in several hours. Your physician will discuss your medical history prior to treatment to prevent any adverse reactions.
